Take a look at the Flagstaff/Grand Canyon Ale Trail for coupons and a complete list of your options in the region, including breweries in nearby Sedona and Williams, AZ. Though a few local breweries have been here for decades, microbreweries are sprouting up around Flag, especially downtown, like wildflowers and nobody seems to be complaining. Northern Arizona's DESTINATION FOR CRAFt BEERS AND MicrobrewerIES Flagstaff is home to some of the best family-friendly restaurants around, offering tasty eats and a relaxed environment the whole family will love. The Downtown area is certainly a great place to find great food, but there are foodie gems popping up all over Flagstaff.įlagstaff is very kid and pet friendly, so don't worry about missing out. In Flagstaff, there are many pet-friendly restaurants to choose from, and during the summers it's not unusual to see a bowl of water designated for furry friends at most restaurants, microbreweries and coffee shops. You'll find that restaurants and bars are lively year-round, rain or shine. Now, with a slate of chef-driven eateries, you’ll want to linger over some of the most creative dishes in the state.įlagstaff now has restaurants serving food almost as exquisite as the mountain-cooled, pine-infused air that makes Flag a great place to live.įrom Thai, French, Mexican, BBQ, Latin and even just amazing sandwiches, Flagstaff restaurant owners and chefs are typically environmentally conscious (as are the people of the city), and ingredients tend to be local, fresh and sustainably grown or raised. Mealtime once meant grab anything quick so you could hurry back outside to play. It's my go-to restaurant in Flagstaff-locally owned, solidly executed menu, staff that I genuinely like, and of course, a place for chicken liver and pork. From Fine Dining to Cowboy Provisions, Flagstaff is Arizona's New Foodie Hotspotįlagstaff will always be best known for its mountain-town charm, but its dining scene has taken a sophisticated turn. You'll hear music from the 70's, 80's, 90's and whatever other random track they feel like putting on. They also have a soundtrack to go with it-no instrumental elevator music here. You'll get expert service, but not white linens or urban formality. I kind of think of this as "Flagstaff formal" both in attire of the patrons and the vibe from the staff. The Churchill Manhattan: Rye whiskey, sweet and dry vermouth, orange bitters

(It's a Churchill Manhattan, if you're curious.) I love the fact that when I come in for dinner, my drink is usually at my table within minutes of me sitting down. The bartenders are very good at their craft and have a modest but solid cocktail menu.

They have two bars here: the dining room bar and the Annex next door. If there's creamed corn with bacon on the menu, get it.Īlso, the scallops regardless of preparation are always big and tender, never overcooked.Ĭhocolate Mousse Duo: The barely baked chocolate cake used to be my favorite here, but then I had this combination of chocolate and peanut butter mousse.

There are any number of preparations for this, and whatever is the selected way that night is going to be good. (It tends to be a meat centric menu, just as a word of warning to any vegetarians.) The menu changes every day, but here are a few of my favorites (and only one with pork!)

We sometimes joke that this means dishes with pork. Right before TBox opened in 2009, I remember Scott calling me to say, "I'm opening up a new place, and I hope you'll try it." I've pretty much been at the restaurant at least once a month ever since.ĭubbed "American Comfort Food-Redefined," TBox dives into the currently uber-fashionable trend of high end reinterpretation of homestyle classics. I met Scott when he was the chef at another downtown restaurant, and he won me over by making chicken liver pate. "TBox," as it's known to its fans, is co-owned by Chef Scott Heinonen and manager Kevin Heinonen. It's my place "where everybody knows my name," and they pretty much know what I drink, too. If you know me and my dining patterns, you kind of knew that Tinderbox Kitchen had to be my first post.
